This Week At The Petchey Academy

Dear Parents and Carers,

The final rounds of interviews have taken place this week to recruit a permanent principal. Yesterday three candidates spent a packed day in interviews, tasks and panel interviews with staff and students and met with all the Governors. Today two candidates, including Clare Borrill, spent a final day taking assemblies and another panel interview with the Board. The Governors hope to be able to announce the appointment of permanent principal early next week, so keep an eye on your inbox for more news.

Mock exams start next week for Years 11, 12 and 13, please click on the links below for the exam timetables. Mock exams are extremely important so it's important that students treat them as such. They can help students to start revising early, to practise effective revision strategies, to improve their knowledge, to familiarise themselves with pressure, and act as a guide moving forward for both students and their teachers. Please ensure that students in Y11-13 have prepared a revision timetable and have somewhere suitable and quiet for them to revise.

Rehearsals are in full swing now for our Christmas production of Scrooge and tickets are now on sale on Parentpay, or you can pay with cash via Student Reception. Please come along, get in to the Christmas spirit and support all the hard work that is being put in by everyone involved.

#Haters Knife Crime Workshops

#Haters education programme is a film and drama-based programme targeted at teenagers and young adults to explore the impact of urban regeneration on communities and on the young people who live in them.

Year 9 students watched a 20 minute film adaptation of #Haters followed by a debate and drama-based activities designed to encourage active citizenship, prevent violent crime and develop critical skills.

In 2015 the stage production #Haters was created through interviews and workshops with Hackney residents in response to a real incident: a social housing tenant from a housing estate in Hackney was stabbed in his shoulder and retreated into a newly opened bar in the area to run away from his assailants. After calling emergency services, the management tweeted a picture of the young man’s blood on the floor with the hashtag: #welcometohackney. The incident became case in point for the repercussions of regeneration in one of the poorest areas in the UK. Social media and tabloids fuelled the hate. #Haters was written to offer a fair representation of both side of the story, hoping to foster communication in this broken community.

...to this year's Christmas production of Scrooge

Tuesday 17th December and Wednesday 18th December 7pm-9pm including a 15 min interval.

Tickets are now on sale on Parentpay or you can pay with cash via Student Reception.

Students are allowed to attend on their own but will be assigned a chaperone (a teacher) for the evening. Please come along, get in to the Christmas spirit and support all the hard work that is being put in by everyone involved.
