This course will focus on the Climate Crisis and individual steps we can take to respond to this enormous global challenge. I won’t lie to you, in this course we will examine the hard data and harsh realities surrounding the current state of the planet. I also promise you we will learn about hopeful responses to this pressing issue and reflect on our own identity and skills to determine a meaningful response to the climate crisis.
The community-based learning activities for this capstone include visiting local middle schools to facilitate “Vision 2030 Keystone Lessons” focused on helping young students learn about climate solutions. This curriculum was developed by our community partners at SAGE’s Vision 2030 Team. Students enrolled in this course must be available to lead lessons in local schools on a variety of Wednesdays throughout the term with exact dates TBD. You will have the option of morning or afternoon teaching slots. On Wednesdays when school visits are scheduled, we will not meet in the classroom at PSU.
The community-based learning activities in this capstone will include tree planting with Friends of Trees, among other activities.
