This course will provide a comprehensive view of research in health care. The course is based on the Longitudinal Access to Physicians Study (LAPS) that Professor Rajiv Sharma has led since its inception in 2013. At this point, LAPS is the longest continuously running study of its type in the United States, and has yielded many publications in prestigious journals including Health Services Research, Health Economics, and Economics Letters.
Course Goals:
Students will experience LAPS in miniature during the term to learn about study design, collection of a unique data set, procedures for maintaining data integrity/security, data validation, statistical analysis, as well as preparing presentations and writing reports.
Students will work on the project over the course of the term, observing, collecting, validating, and analyzing data, reading relevant and critical literature, and writing papers assessing the proceedings of the project and analyzing its effectiveness. Students will prepare final papers, and student teams will prepare and make presentations.
