Kumar Pattani Collection

The Collection donated by Kumar Pattani, great-grandson of Sir Prabhashankar Pattani primarily comprises official papers dating from 1918 to 1950, originating from the Diwan’s office, as well as personal correspondence to and from Sir Prabhashankar Pattani, Anantrai Pattani, and Batukrai Pattani. The archival materials are in both English and Gujarati.

In addition to documents, the collection includes a wide range of other archival materials, like: mounted and unmounted family photographs of various sizes, other photographs and negatives, film reels, maps, plaques, printing blocks, sketches, and newspaper clippings. These materials have been carefully preserved by many members of the Pattani family over the years before it was brought into the archives.

Since November 2025, the Kumar Pattani Photographic Collection has been undergoing systematic cataloguing and research at the Pattani Archives. The photographic materials are being carefully documented to preserve their stories and improve accessibility for future research. An interview with Kumar Pattani conducted in January 2026 has provided valuable firsthand information, helping to identify people, locations, and events captured in the images.

Rich in personal narratives and historical significance, it is an important resource for understanding both family heritage and the wider world in which these materials were created. Through ongoing research and documentation, the collection continues to reveal new insights into the past while ensuring its preservation for future generations.

સર પ્રભાશંકર પટ્ટણીના પ્રપૌત્ર કુમાર પટ્ટણી દ્વારા દાનમાં મળેલા સંગ્રહમાં મુખ્યત્વે 1918 થી 1950 સુધીના દિવાનના કાર્યાલયમાંથી લખાયેલા સત્તાવાર કાગળો, તેમજ સર પ્રભાશંકર પટ્ટણી, અનંતરાય પટ્ટણી અને બટુકરાય પટ્ટણીને અને તેમના દ્વારા લખાયેલા વ્યક્તિગત પત્રવ્યવહારનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. આ સંગ્રહ અંગ્રેજી અને ગુજરાતી બંને ભાષામાં છે.

આ સંગ્રહમાં દસ્તાવેજો ઉપરાંત અન્ય આર્કાઇવલ સામગ્રીની વિશાળ શ્રેણીનો સમાવેશ થાય છે, જેમ કે: વિવિધ કદના માઉન્ટેડ અને અનમાઉન્ટેડ કૌટુંબિક ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ, અને નેગેટિવ્સ, ફિલ્મ રીલ્સ, નકશા, તકતીઓ, પ્રિન્ટિંગ બ્લોક્સ, સ્કેચ અને અખબાર ક્લિપિંગ્સનો સમાવેશ થાય છે . આ સામગ્રીને આર્કાઇવ્સમાં લાવવામાં આવે તે પહેલાં વર્ષોથી પટ્ટણી પરિવારના ઘણા સભ્યો દ્વારા કાળજીપૂર્વક સાચવવામાં આવ્યો  છે.

નવેમ્બર ૨૦૨૫થી, કુમાર પટ્ટણી ફોટોગ્રાફિક કલેકશન પર કેટલોગિંગ અને સંશોધનનું કામ ચાલી રહ્યું છે. ફોટોગ્રાફિક સામગ્રીનું ધ્યાનપૂર્વક દસ્તાવેજીકરણ કરવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે, જેથી તેની સાથે જોડાયેલી વાર્તાઓ જળવાઈ રહે અને ભવિષ્યના સંશોધન માટે તે વધુ સરળતાથી ઉપલબ્ધ બને. જાન્યુઆરી ૨૦૨૬માં કુમાર પટ્ટણી સાથે લેવામાં આવેલા ઇન્ટરવ્યુએ આ કાર્યમાં મહત્વપૂર્ણ પ્રાથમિક માહિતી પૂરી પાડી છે, જેના આધારે તસવીરોમાં દેખાતા લોકો, સ્થળો અને પ્રસંગોને ઓળખવામાં મદદ મળી રહી છે.

વ્યક્તિગત સંસ્મરણો અને ઐતિહાસિક મહત્ત્વથી સમૃદ્ધ આ સંગ્રહ પરિવારની વારસાને સમજવા માટે તો મહત્વનો છે જ, સાથે સાથે જે સમય અને સંદર્ભમાં આ સામગ્રી સર્જાઈ હતી તેને સમજવા માટે પણ એક મૂલ્યવાન સાધન છે. સતત ચાલી રહેલા સંશોધન અને દસ્તાવેજીકરણ દ્વારા આ સંગ્રહ ભૂતકાળ વિશે નવી સમજણો સામે લાવતો રહે છે અને સાથે તેની આવનારી પેઢીઓ માટે જાળવણી પણ સુનિશ્ચિત કરે છે.
