Conservator Visit: S. Girikumar

Upon their arrival at the newly established Archives office in Bhavnagar, they reviewed a selection of archival papers and provided key recommendations for their preservation. The first day concluded with a visit to the Samadhi (memorial) of Sir Prabhashankar Pattani.

Over the following one and a half days, the focus shifted to long-term space planning for housing the library and developing systems for the archival setup. The team worked closely with the advisors to evaluate detailed measurements and layout plans to determine suitable placement for cupboards within the new facility. Fumigated materials were carefully examined, and the condition of library books was assessed. Additionally, various objects—including photographs, negatives, paintings, and records—were reviewed, and appropriate storage measures were discussed.

તેમની મુલાકાતમાં સંરક્ષણ અને જાળવણી પ્રયાસોનું માર્ગદર્શન અમને મળ્યું. તેવો પેહલી વખત પટ્ટણી આર્કાઇવ્સની ઓફિસમાં પહોંચ્યા પછી તેમના દ્વારા આર્કાઇવલ પેપર્સની સમીક્ષા કરવામાં આવી અને જાળવણી માટે સુધારા સૂચવવામાં આવ્યા. અમારા  આર્કાઇવ્સમા અંગ્રેજી અને ગુજરાતી બંનેમાં અસંખ્ય પત્રો, ફાઇલો, પરબિડીયાઓ, પુસ્તિકાઓ, છૂટા કાગળો વગેરેનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. આ સંગ્રહમાં સફાઈ, નંબરિગ કેવી રીતે કરવુ તે જણાવ્યું.

લાયબ્રેરીમાં રહેલ પુસ્તકોની સ્થિતિનું મૂલ્યાંકન કરવામાં આવ્યું અને લાંબા સમય સુધી પુસ્તકો સુરક્ષિત રહે તે  માટે વિવિધ સુધારાઓ તથા સિસ્ટમો વિકસાવવા પર ધ્યાન કેન્દ્રિત કરવામાં આવ્યું. ટીમે સલાહકારો સાથે નજીકથી કામ કરીને નવી સુવિધામાં કબાટ માટે યોગ્ય સ્થાન નક્કી કરવા માટે વિગતવાર માપન અને લેઆઉટ યોજનાઓનું મૂલ્યાંકન કર્યું.ફ્યુમિગેટેડ સામગ્રીની કાળજીપૂર્વક તપાસ કરવામાં આવી, અને વધુમાં, ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ, નેગેટીવ્સ, ચિત્રો અને રેકોર્ડ્સ સહિત વિવિધ વસ્તુઓની સમીક્ષા કરવામાં આવી, અને યોગ્ય સંગ્રહ પગલાંની ચર્ચા કરવામાં આવી.
