CTHS Auto & Diesel Technology Pathway, is a foundational driven program that challenges and prepares students to SUCCEED for the future!

The program is based on our campus D.R.I.V.E. foundation, ASE Education Foundation accreditation in (MLR - Maintanance & Light Repair) and current Automotive and Commercial Diesel Dealer Industry Standards.

Students learn the values, ethics, knowledge and hands-on trade skills necessary to be successful as an entry level automotive service technician throughout the entire 4 year program.

What does the CTHS Auto and Diesel 4 year program look like for a student?

SAFETY - Student safety is our top priority.

Every school year students are REQUIRED to take and PASS the CCar eSafety Course before they are allowed to work in shop for LABS.

Courses:

All course lessons are taught to follow a teach, apply and level up approach each year. The lessons follow all the requirements both in class and LAB hands-on training hours to be able to PASS the ASE Certification Exams they take through the program.

Year's 9th-12th: Class to Lab lesson percentages

(Basics) Freshman Year - They are introduced to Level 1 Lessons & LABS, in hand tools, identifying vehicle information, understanding vehicle operating systems and components, engine operating and maintenance, tires & wheels, brakes and braking systems, suspension and steering and basic electrical systems and testing. (Class 70% / LAB 30%)
(Intermediates) Sophomore Year Level 2 Lessons & LABS, in electrical/electronic systems testing, repairing and diagnosing, repairing and servicing brakes and braking systems, Level 2 understanding of suspension and steering components and systems and intro to scan tools and computer diagnostics. Introduction to Job quoting parts resourcing and using service tech service and repair manuals. End of year job shadowing at partnership Dealers during the summer. (Class 60% / LAB 40%)
(Experts) Junior Year - Advance Level 3 Lessons & LABS, in all previous courses and ASE test preparation for ASE exams. End of year Internship/Job opportunities for qualifying students with local Dealerships along with Student Auto technician competitions events at SkillsUSA & HADA. Expert Level students are taking on real live customer repairs and services as LAB credits. (Class 40% / Lab 60%)
(Elites) Senior Year - 100% Career Preparation; lesson plans are applied through live work at the CTHS shop. Working on real customer vehicles, personal vehicles and assigned projects. If the student has acquired a full time internship with one of our partners, they head to work and earn classroom credits during their school class hours. The GOAL, is for them to apply all learned skills at a Sponsored Dealership, be career ready for a full time employment positions in other fields or be prepared for a post secondary education or training facility. (Class 20% / LAB & Live Work 80%)

The ASE Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level automotive technology education programs against standards developed by the automotive service industry. It also develops career-readiness education for students which fuse local partnerships, rigorous standard-based education, workplace experience, and mentorship together. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) fosters collaboration among service professionals, shop owners, dealers, and industry stakeholders to elevate the transportation industry. ASE verifies service professionals’ technical knowledge through testing, developed by subject matter experts from across the industry. ASE Certifications are valid for 5 years, and require the passing of a recertification test prior to expiration to verify up-to-date technical knowledge. ASE Certified professionals have the knowledge and skills to diagnose and repair vehicles efficiently and correctly, the first time. The ASE Education Foundation impacts more than 100,000 students across 1,800+ ASE accredited programs. The foundation bridges the gap between education and the transportation industry, providing a certification pathway to enter the automotive industry and build rewarding careers.

Mr. Gabriel Rodriguez

Mr. Rodriguez is an ASE Certified Technician in Automobiles. Mr. Rodriguez has skills in Automotive, Diesel, and the Industrial Field.

Mr. Rodriguez Graduated from Universal Technical Institute in Houston, Tx. and has worked as an Automotive Technician for KIA for 3yrs and 15yrs in material handling as a shop technician and field service technician.

Mr. Rodriguez joined CTHS-Dr. Kirk Lewis Career & Technical High School as an Automotive Technology Instructor. He provides hands-on training in automotive repair, maintenance, diagnostics, and shop safety while helping students develop the technical and professional skills needed for careers in the automotive industry.

His mission is to prepare students for success through real-world learning experiences and industry-based instruction.

Mr. Jesus Luna

Mr. Luna is the current CTHS Auto & Diesel Technology Coordinator and Instructor, he brings 20+ years of Automotive Industry and Commercial Heavy-Duty Truck Industry experience to our program.

He has worked in various industry sectors and held positions in Service, Parts, Sales and Excutive Management for several companies and Dealerships.

He is a FORD ASSET program graduate and a ASE Certified Automotive Technician.

He is an avid motorsport and car enthusiast and enjoys watching and praticapating in racing events.

He is passionate about teaching students Life values and hands on skills, so they can develope and grow to their full potential.
