Week beginning - Monday 6th October 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week in Year 4, students have been mastering subtraction with exchanges using a range of strategies. They began with manipulatives to build a strong conceptual understanding, then moved to pictorial representations before applying abstract methods. This hands-on approach helped them confidently tackle more complex problems and explain their thinking clearly.
Also during inquiry, students explored wellbeing through portrait creation. They experimented with sketching techniques and used different media—such as pastels, watercolours, and pencils—to express emotions and moods. Colour choice played a key role in conveying feelings and students reflected on how art can support mental health. The portraits are thoughtful, expressive, and beautifully showcase their creativity and growing technical skills.

Lilya has been a principled and knowledgeable learner this week. She has shone in our inquiry, writing an informative narrative about the journey through the digestive system. This week she has also demonstrated an excellent understanding of column subtraction with multiple exchanges. Keep up the brilliant effort!

Well done to Annabel, she has shown outstanding determination and perseverance in maths.
Annabel showed great resilience when faced with the challenge of exchanging in column subtraction. Even when it was tricky, she didn’t give up. Instead, she worked carefully and thoughtfully to understand what she was doing — and she succeeded!
Her eagerness to learn, positive attitude, and willingness to answer questions in class make her a fantastic role model for others.
