Week beginning - Monday 29th September 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
It's been a busy and excting week for the children as they have steered their inquiry learning to Paddock Wood and what makes a community work. Through lively discussions and hands-on activities, they have learned that people have many different roles - from shopkeepers and firefighters to teachers and postal workers. They all contribute to the life of the town. Using Google Earth, the children became little explorers, zooming in to familiar places, identifying key landmarks, and making connections between their local environment and the wider world.
This week in maths the children have been busy exploring the concepts of size and capacity. They compared big and small objects and ordered these from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. We also introduced the scales and the children began using key vocaublary like "heavier" and "lighter". It's been wonderful to see them developing their mathematical thinking through exploration, language and discovery.
Finally we have learnt the sounds n, c and k as part of our phonics lessons. The children will be coming home with books without words to begin with. This is an opportunity for your child to use their language to tell stories. They will also have a library book which is a book for you to read to them. Please do ask your child questions about the main events, characters and key language. Introducing children to a wide range of words in stories helps them to understand vocabulary in context. When your child is blending words independently they will have access to books with words in.
