Week beginning - Monday 6th October 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
What a super week we’ve had in Year One!
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our Florence Nightingale workshop. The children were fascinated to learn about this key historical figure and her incredible contributions to healthcare. This linked beautifully to our central idea of taking responsibility for our health, and we had so much fun exploring her story through hands-on activities and discussion.
In art, we have been building on our drawing skills by exploring the style of Julian Opie. The children experimented with drawing on different surfaces and using a variety of tools to create their own portraits of people inspired by Opie’s distinctive techniques.
In maths, we have been busy working with part-whole models and addition. The children have really enjoyed lots of hands-on lessons to help them understand how numbers combine and work together.
During our reading lessons, we have been using The Lonely Beast to demonstrate and develop our comprehension skills. The children continue to impress us with their thoughtful predictions and understanding of the text.
It’s been another busy and exciting week of learning, and we hope your children share their favourite moments with you at home!

What a great risk-taker you have been this week. This week has seen you share your learning more confidently and you have been less afraid to make mistakes meaning you have shown more and tried more things! I can't wait to see these learner behaviours develop further in class. Well done, what lovely reading we have had from you this week!
