Week beginning - Monday 8th December 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
What a week it has been, kicked off by the children getting us all in the Christmas spirit during their Christmas performance. We are extremely proud of each and every one of them. What wonderful narrators, singers and dancers we have amongst us in Year One! The festivities didn't stop there. We enjoyed the panto (Oh yes we did!), filled the school with festive cheer on Christmas jumper day and created our own sleigh designs incorporating our knowledge of 2D shapes and everyday materials. In Phonics this week, we have been working on the alternative 'g' sound, focusing on words including gerbil, gem, giraffe, ginger, gymnastics and energy. We continued to focus on our knowledge of everyday materials and their properties. We used this knowledge to begin writing our letters to Berkley Group, in which we will explain which materials we believe would be best when building new houses. In Maths, we have worked hard to sort a variety of 2D shapes and create patterns using 2D and 3D shapes. In Art this week, we created seasonal collages using a variety of paper, textiles and textures. It has been wonderful celebrating the children's artistic ideas and creativity.
1P
For being a caring and knowledgeable learner. You thrived in our Maths this week when making patterns indoors and outdoors with different shapes and objects. You shared good understanding of 2D, in particular sharing about how many corners and sides the shapes had.
1M
For being a knowledgeable scientist throughout the term but in particular this week where you used your knowledge of materials and their properties to create a letter to Berkley Group describing what materials they should use when building houses. Keep up the great work Julian!
1B
You have been an incredibly knowledgeable and risk-taking learner. It has been lovely to see your confidence grow this term and to see you participating more in class discussions. The class really benefit from your fantastic knowledge and thoughtful answers. Keep up the great work Ben!
