Week beginning - Monday 3rd November 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
What a fantastic week it’s been in Year 2! We have well and truly launched into our new Central Idea: “The achievements of pioneering individuals can have a lasting effect on both local and global communities.” The children have shown such enthusiasm and curiosity as we’ve started exploring what it means to be a pioneer.
One of the highlights of our week was Dress Up Day on Tuesday. The children arrived bursting with excitement, proudly dressed as significant people from history and modern times. We had everything from astronauts to artists, explorers to inventors, and even a few brave doctors and scientists. It was wonderful to see how confidently the children spoke about the people they had chosen to represent and how thoughtfully they shared why those individuals are considered pioneers. The enthusiasm in the classrooms was infectious, and it really helped bring our central idea to life! We want to say a huge thank you to all our parents and carers for the time, effort, and creativity that went into the costumes. From homemade accessories to carefully researched outfits, your support helped make the day truly special. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and to hear the children explaining how they made or chose their costumes — it really added to their understanding.
Throughout the rest of the week, the children have been busy conducting research on significant individuals who have made a difference in the world. Using books, the Inquiry Hub, and the Chromebooks, they’ve been developing their skills as young researchers — learning how to find information, take notes, and organise their ideas. We’ve been so impressed with how engaged they’ve been. Some children have been fascinated by inventors and scientists, while others have been inspired by campaigners, artists, and explorers. It has been lovely to see the children sharing what they’ve discovered with such pride and excitement.
Looking ahead to next week, we’ll be taking all of our new knowledge and beginning to write biographies about the significant people we’ve been researching. The children will learn about the key features of a biography, how to organise their writing into sections, and how to include interesting facts and details. We can’t wait to see how their research turns into fantastic pieces of writing that celebrate the achievements of their chosen pioneers.
It’s been such a joyful week of learning and discovery in Year 2. The children have made a brilliant start to our new unit, and their excitement has set the tone for what promises to be an inspiring few weeks ahead.

Everly has been a principled risk taker this week. She always does the right thing and on our dress up day she went above and beyond both with her knowledge and her costume. Well done!
