Week beginning - Monday 10th November 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
What a wonderful week of learning we’ve had in Year One! In Phonics, the children have been exploring split digraphs – those clever sounds made by two letters with one in between. This week we focused on o–e (as in bone) and e–e (as in these). The children have really enjoyed spotting these patterns in their reading and practising them in their writing.
In Maths, our focus has been on fact families and subtraction. The children have been developing their understanding of how numbers are connected and how we can use this knowledge to solve subtraction problems in different ways.
Our Inquiry lessons have taken us into the world of The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig – a delightful twist on a well-known tale! We’ve loved reading this alternative version and discussing how it compares to The Three Little Pigs. The children have investigated the materials the wolves used to build their homes and have applied their scientific knowledge to talk about the properties of different materials. It’s been fantastic to see their curiosity and creativity shine through!
We are also thrilled to see so many pupils engaging with home learning. Please continue to share any projects or learning from home – either by bringing it into school or sending it to our school email. We love celebrating the children’s efforts and sharing their wonderful work with the class. As part of our home learning, lots of you will have been accessing the digital resources available.
Edshed - This is a literacy resource available online. Pupils may use this to consolidate learning from the week and explore quizzes and tasks; however, you will see some assigned tasks that can be done. We are aware that QR codes and pins can be faulty. If this is the case, please inform your class teacher; we have informed our team. Usernames and passwords do work, so please use them to access.
Numbots - This is a mathematical resource. Whilst there are no assigned tasks here, pupils can progress through the levels by learning Maths. This is a fun way to engage children in their maths knowledge.
Have a lovely weekend,
Year One Team
