At Dumbarton Academy, we value the strong partnership between home and school, and our Parent Council plays a vital role in supporting this relationship. Working together, we help shape a positive learning environment where all our young people can thrive and succeed.
The Parent Council exists to represent the views of parents and carers, support the work of the school, and help strengthen the link between families, staff, and the wider community.
The Dumbarton Academy Parent Council aims to:
Support the school’s vision by promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for all families.
Represent the views of parents and carers on issues that affect the education and wellbeing of our young people.
Encourage parental involvement in school life through events, feedback, and engagement opportunities.
Work collaboratively with school leadership, staff, and the wider community to support the best outcomes for our students.
Assist in fundraising and school improvement initiatives, including the enhancement of learning environments, resources, and extra-curricular activities.
All parents and carers of children enrolled at Dumbarton Academy are automatically part of the Parent Forum and are welcome to attend Parent Council meetings.
The Parent Council is made up of a smaller group of volunteers from the Parent Forum, including a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and general members. We are always open to new members joining — whether you’d like to take on a role or simply attend meetings and share your views.
No prior experience is necessary — just a willingness to be involved!
Parent Council meetings offer a platform for open dialogue and discussion on topics such as:
School policies and priorities
Curriculum changes and updates
School improvement planning
Supporting pupil wellbeing
Upcoming events and fundraising
Community links and partnerships
Feedback from parents and carers
We work closely with the Head Teacher and senior staff, who regularly attend meetings to provide updates and seek input.
We usually meet once per term, either in person at the school or online to make it easier for more parents to attend. Meeting dates and agendas are shared in advance via school newsletters, Groupcall, and the school website.
Minutes from each meeting are available on request and can be accessed via the school office or Parent Council contacts.
We would love for you to join us! Your voice matters — whether you have questions, suggestions, or simply want to stay informed about what’s happening in the school.
If you’re interested in joining the Parent Council or would like more information, please get in touch via the school office
We’d like to thank all of our current and past Parent Council members for their time, effort, and support. Your contributions help make Dumbarton Academy a more vibrant, responsive, and caring school community.
