History

Welcome to the History Department

History at Dumbarton Academy encourages students to explore the people, events, and ideas that have shaped the world we live in today. Our department helps young people understand the past, make sense of the present, and think critically about the future.

Through engaging lessons, students study a wide range of topics—from Scottish and British history to major global events such as the World Wars, civil rights movements, and significant turning points in world history. We focus on developing key skills in research, analysis, source evaluation, and structured argument.

History teaches students to ask questions, consider multiple perspectives, and understand cause and consequence. These skills are not only essential for academic success but also valuable for informed, responsible citizenship.
