Statement of Inquiry: To connect with others one can show empathy through correct word choice when reacting to how others feel.

Competencies

(1) Communication: I can use different tools and processes to express myself clearly in multiple ways

(2) Character: I regularly show and model kindness, compassion, empathy, and integrity

Assessment

1) Formative Listening Test: students listen and view a Spanish language video about sickness and health while answering multiple choice comprehension questions. Students are marked on demonstration of aural comprehension.

2) Summative Writing Test: students write 150 words in diary format about a trip to Mexico when things kept going wrong, but people were there to offer help and empathetic responses.

Inquiry Questions

Factual: Which words describe my body? How do I talk about health problems and parts of my body hurting? How should I reply if someone else has a health problem?

Conceptual: Are there any conceptual differences between how the English and Spanish languages view the body (eg. calling the toes "foot fingers")

Debatable: When is it necessary to go and see the doctor or go to the pharmacy? Are traditional medicines/treatments used in Latin America, such as traditional Andean medicine effective?
