Statement of Inquiry

To effectively convey opinions about leisure activities in different cultures it's important to use the correct format for the audience.

Competencies

(1) Critical Thinking: I can regularly apply what I learn in different contexts

(2) Communication: I consider my audiences’ needs before designing my communication

Assessment

1) Listening Test: students listen and view a Spanish leisure activities video on their own laptops while answering multiple choice comprehension questions. Students are marked on demonstration of aural comprehension.

2) Writing Test: students write one e-mail and one series of text messages  about leisure activities. The e-mail should be written in formal register and the text messages in informal register. Each text should be 50-75 words long. Students are marked on the message conveyed, accurate use of e-mail and text message conventions and the accuracy of their language.

Inquiry Questions

Factual — What are some fun free-time activities? What are some free-time activities in Spain?

Conceptual — Why do different students like different things?

Debatable — Why do we need to have fun? What would happen if all we did was study and sleep?
