Types of question on the Reading Paper
(1) Elige las cinco frases verdaderas - Choose the five true sentences. This is a true/false activity where you put in a cross in the boxes next to the five true sentences in a list of more than five sentences. Make sure you put exactly five crosses.
(2) Encuentra la palabra o la expresión que signifique lo siguiente - Find the word or expression that means the following. This is a synonyms activity where you need to find a synonym in the text that means the same as the word given. Normally the question will tell you where to look, párrafo 3 - paragraph 3 for example.
(3) Contesta a las siguientes preguntas - Answer the following questions. A straightforward question requiring a written answer, normally a short phrase or even a single word, not normally a full sentence answer.
(4) Elige la respuesta correcta - Choose the correct answer. A multiple choice question requiring you to select the correct answer from four options by writing the letter of your chosen option in a box.
(5) ¿A quién o a qué se refieren las palabras subrayadas? - To whom or to what do the underlined words refer to? This question type gives you a word from the text that is underlined and tells you what line from the text the underlined word is from. You need to write in words what it refers to. An example would be to find out what the 'ellos' refers to in the phrase 'hablar con ellos'. By reading the text you could find out that the word 'ellos' refers back to the previously mentioned 'estudiantes'.
(6) Encuentra las palabras que completen las frases siguientes - Find the words that finish the following sentences. This question type requires you to find words or phrases from the text and copy them directly to finish the sentences given to you in a logical manner.
(7) Elige de la lista la palabra apropiada para completar cada espacio en el siguiente texto - Choose the correct word from the list to fill in each gap in the following text. In this question type you are given a list of words, often these words are prepositions, pronouns and articles, and you use some of them (you will be given too many words in the list) to fill in the gaps in the text.
(8) Las siguientes frases son verdaderas o falsas. Marca [/] la opción correcta y luego justifícala usando las palabras tal como aparecen en el texto. Las dos partes son necesarias para obtener un punto. - The following sentences are true or false. Write a [/] next to the correct option and then justify it using words as they appear in the text. The two parts are necessary to obtain one point. This is a true/false activity with written justifications using words from the text. You have to write a justification for every question, not only the false ones, but the true one too.
Types of question on the Listening Paper
(1) Completa los espacios en blanco. Usa como máximos tres palabras por espacio - Fill in the gaps. Use three words maximum per gap. This is a gap fill activity. Listen for the words that go in the gap. The gap could contain one word, two words or three words.
(2) Elige las cinco frases verdaderas - Choose the five true sentences. This is a true/false activity, you put a cross in the box next to each true sentence. There will be more than five sentences, but you should only choose five that you think are true in accordance with what you hear in the recording.
(3) Elige la respuesta correcta - Choose the correct answer. This is a multiple choice activity. You will be given a question with three possible answers. Use the information you hear on the recording to help you choose the correct answer.
(4) Contesta a las siguientes preguntas - Answer the following questions. This is a straightforward question that requires you to give a written answer. They are normally looking for a noun or a verb and noun phrase, not a full sentence answer.
