Shopping

Statement of Inquiry: It is necessary to ask questions and understand answers in order to go shopping.

Competencies

(1)  Communication: I am aware of the different formats of communication and can express myself in different ways

(2) Collaboration: I can work with other members of my group to make sure our collaborative process is as effective as possible

Assessment

1) Reading Test: students read a dialogue between a shop assistant and a customer in Spain on their own laptops while answering multiple choice comprehension questions. Students are marked on demonstration of reading comprehension.

2) Speaking Test: students work in small groups to produce a video. Video length - 1 to 2 minutes. Students are marked on pronunciation and content.


Inquiry Questions

Factual: What do I need to ask in order to buy things in a shop? What possible replies do I need to understand in order to buy things in a shop? What words do I need to know to describe quantity and size?

Conceptual: Why are coins different in different countries? Why do I go shopping? Why do others go shopping?

Debatable: Where do you prefer to go shopping: in a supermarket/shopping mall/small shops /traditional market? Do you think shopping is a leisure activity? Do you think overconsumption is a problem and why?
