Statement of Inquiry

Interactions require an understanding of how word order and vocabulary choice differ between languages

Competencies

(1) Communication - I am aware of the different formats of communication and can express myself in different ways

(2) Communication - I can use my intercultural understanding to interpret various forms of communication

Assessment

Listening Test: students listen and view a Spanish language greetings video on their own laptops while answering multiple choice comprehension questions. Students are marked on demonstration of aural comprehension.


Writing Test: students write two greetings conversations, each conversation is 30-70 words long and in dialogue format. One conversation will require informal language and the other will require formal language.

Inquiry Questions

Factual: What vocabulary is needed to give your name, age, place of residence and nationality?

Conceptual: How do the structures used to express personal identity differ between Spanish and English? 

Debatable: Are the structures used to express personal identity in Spanish more or less logical than English?
