There are a lot of different ways to study effectively. Take a look at some of these resources to help you take your studying to the next level. Here are some of our favourite tips to make the most of your next study session.
Get yourself set up in a space where you can work: good light, enough space, just the right amount of noise (or no noise at all). Put your phone away.
Why it works: Getting into the right space signals to your brain that it's time to work (just like warming up before going for a run, or preparing your ingredients before you cook a meal)
Taking care of yourself is an essential part of good study skills. Getting enough sleep, staying active, giving yourself breaks that are just for fun, and choosing healthy snacks all play a part in helping your brain function at its best. Taking care of yourself and giving yourself breaks will also help you be more effective when you do eventually sit down to work.
Why it works: Do we need to explain this one? Taking care of yourself is ALWAYS a good thing, and sleep is SO important!
Schedule your studying so that you review what you learned every day (even if it's just for a few minutes).
Why it works: Reviewing what you learned for even just 20 minutes every day helps your brain remember information much better than if you cram for hours and hours the night before the test.
Reading and highlighting sounds like a great way to study, but it isn't actually that effective.
A better way to spend your time is to quiz yourself! You can make flashcards to test your knowledge, you can use tools like NotebookLM to make virtual flashcards, or even create quiz games like Jeopardy or Kahoot to see how much you know.
Why it works: Testing your knowledge helps you to see what you've actually mastered and also what you DON'T know yet (which is what you have to review!)
Are you artistic? Try creating mind maps or infographics to help you study.
Are you athletic? Incorporate exercises into your study sessions to give yourself a break.
Are you a hands-on learner? Explain abstract concepts with practical, concrete examples to help break them down.
You don't have to use every single study method ever invented - you just need to find one that works for you! It's not a competition and it's not about what works best for everyone else: it just has to work for you.
25 minutes of hardcore focus.
5 minutes of break.
Repeat.
Quizzing yourself with flashcards is WAY more effective to remember and understand information than reading and highlighting. Tools like NotebookLM will even make flashcards for you!

You know what your responsibilities are, you know what assignments you have coming up, and you know the due dates, but how do you actually make sure it all gets done? Good time management often comes down to having a good plan in place so that you can make sure you have the time to accomplish everything you need to do.
