Welcome to the wonderful world of magazines!
Magazines are a great resource to learn about a variety of topics related to the Social Sciences! Take a look at this slideshow to help you identify key features of magazines including how to find an article that's appropriate for this task.
In addition to the print magazines available in the JMSS Library for your assignment, you can also access online magazines using your Ottawa Public Library card! Click on the "Flipster" or "Overdrive" images below to access the webpages. You'll have to log in to the Ottawa Public Library using your library card and pin.
Flipster eMagazines includes a variety of titles such as: Maclean’s, Forbes, People, InStyle, Today’s Parent, Real Simple, Time, The Atlantic, Scientific American and many more! There are also French magazine titles available.
How to Use:
Search for the magazine title you want directly or browse by topic using the menu on the left hand side
Click to access the resource and it will pop up in a new browser window
To access older issues,open the most recent issue and find the bookstack icon at the top of the page. Click to access “all issues” and choose the one you want!
You can search within a magazine if you’re using the desktop or mobile version of Flipster, however the app doesn't’ have a search option.
Overdrive Magazines (Formerly RBDigital Unlimited Magazines -Zinio) has a great selection of titles including The New Yorker, Reader’s Digest, WIRED, Smithsonian Magazine Newsweek, and National Geographic. A variety of magazines on topics such as home renovation, cooking, gardening, and other hobbies are available.
How to Use:
Search for the magazine title you want directly or browse by topic using the menu on the left hand side
Borrow the magazine by checking it out using your library card
You can select another issue using the drop down menu on the magazine page and you can read a sample to see if it’s a good choice
