Week 4: "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, an interesting VR adaptation?"

I chose is the animated movie “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs”, this movie is about an inventor, Flint Lockwood, who has spent all his life making “crazy”, quirky, and sometimes useless inventions, such as spray-on shoes. Flint then creates a food machine that produces any type of food you ask it to make. He then becomes an overnight sensation in his sad, boring town. The town’s people start ordering more and more food from the machine, which in turn puts a lot of pressure on Flint and the Machine. This causes the machine to malfunction and creates catastrophic “weather” phenomena such as giant food falling from the sky, and food monsters. Flint saves the day however by destroying the machine and once again returning to the old, boring life in his town.

The main events of this movie are:

  1. Flint creates a food machine that produces food on demand. The town loves the machine, thus ordering more and more of it.

2) The machine malfunctions due to pressure, which causes catastrophes and food storms, which destroy the town.

3) Flint Lockwood finds a solution and destroys the machine, everything goes back to normal.

All throughout the movie, we see how the town works, what it looks like, and the overall structure of it. If recreated in VR, this movie could be recreated by focusing on the details, such as the machine, the food, and the town. It would also be interesting to create interaction between the user and the machine for instance.
