Hispanic Heritage Month Kicks Off
By: Dayanna Castro
September 15 marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate the different cultures, cuisines, and people of Latin America.
In New Rochelle, we celebrate Hispanic Culture with fairs, concerts, and events. For example, the St. Gabriel & St. Joseph Family Festival takes place every year in September, which celebrates Hispanic Culture with rides, food from different Hispanic American countries, and even a concert.
On September 27, 2025, the Taste of Union Avenue will take place on Union Avenue between Second and Fourth Street. There will be opportunities to sample food from Union Avenue restaurants, and there will be live performances. These are just two of the ways New Rochelle celebrates its large Hispanic community. We can also celebrate and honor the community by honoring important people, such as Cesar Chavez, Ellen Ochoa, Sonia Sotomayor, Rita Moreno, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many more. There are many different ways to celebrate and honor the cultures of Hispanic America.
