what our pupils think of Art

Arts Week

Arts week is held during the last week of term in July. The whole week is dedicated to workshops such as screen printing, Drama, Dance, digital photography, stop motion animation, mono-printing and Manga Art. Its is great fun and still challenging at the same time.

After school art CLUB

For KS3 at our after-school art clubs we run a different theme each half term and the children learn to develop their artistic techniques, working in a variety of different mediums – oil pastels, watercolours, pencil and sometimes in clay.

Here are some beautiful ceramic pieces our A Level students created during a workshop held at the Grayson Perry exhibition, at the Holbourne, in Bath.

Art Trips

We are so lucky to be in close proximity to both Bath and Bristol, which have such a multitude of wonderful Art galleries. At KS3 we aim to visit galleries which are exhibiting work which connects with our curriculum.

At KS4 we incorporate a visit to either Bristol or South Wales, where we can view Art work in the flesh and take part in workshops. All of the visits are designed to support the GCSE course in Art and Photography.

At KS5 visiting galleries is essential so we organise a vocational trip to either London or (biannually) to a European city.

year 9 options

Students are given the option to select 'Art' as an Arts option.

GCSE options

Year 10-11

Art and Photography GCSE are both highly popular qualifications that encourage students to develop their skills across a range of disciplines. It provides a foundation for students to pursue further education or to continue their own creative journeys.

A level options

Year 12-13

A Level Art and A Level Photography are designed for developing your style and talent while learning a range of fine art and photographic techniques and approaches.

Students should be introduced to a variety of experiences that explore a range of photographic media, techniques and processes. They should be made aware of both traditional and new technologies.
