Who Can Attend?

Students, their theatre teachers, and chaperones are welcome at the 2019 Iowa Thespian Festival.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A THESPIAN TO ATTEND THE IOWA THESPIAN FESTIVAL!

We encourage all students that are interested in theatre to attend Festival. The Iowa Thespian Festival is an excellent opportunity for students of all backgrounds and experiences to view and enjoy a weekend of outstanding theatre.

Any parents who are interested in attending as chaperones are welcome to join us (see below for registrations costs).

When? and Where?

The 2019 Iowa Thespian Festival will take place on November 8th and 9th at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. We will stay overnight at a hotel in the Cedar Falls area.

Required Meeting: Wednesday, November 6th, 2019 @ 4pm - Rules & Information

What is the cost?

  • The cost of the festival trip is $125 per LP student after our generous Drama Boosters provide a $25 stipend to each of our LP students attending!
  • If a parent is interested in chaperoning for the festival, LP will cover the $75 registration fee, but we ask that you pay for your portion of your hotel room ($150/room); you may choose to room alone, or with another parent.

The basic registration cost per person includes…

  • Seats in Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center for mainstage productions and presentations
  • Official 2019 Iowa Thespian Festival T-Shirt Admission to workshops, Individual Events performances and showcase, and college exhibits
  • Three Meals - Friday (Lunch and Dinner) and Saturday (Lunch)

FRIDAY

10:00 AM – 12:30 PM Opening Ceremonies and Mainstage #1

12:30 PM – 2:30 PM Studio Theatres, Lunch, and Student Leadership Lunch

12:30 PM – 5:30 PM Studio Theatres, Tech Challenge, Individual Events

5:00 PM – 7:30 PM Studio Theatres and Dinner

7:45 PM – 10:15 PM Curtain Presentation and Mainstage #2

SATURDAY

8:30 AM – 9:15 AM Scholarship Auditions, Student Activity, and Troupe Director Reception

9:30 AM – 11:30 AM Hall of Fame Presentation and Mainstage #3

11:45 AM – 2:30 PM Open Mic and Lunch

2:30 PM – 4:30 PM Workshops and Scholarship Callbacks

4:30 PM – 7:00 PM IE Showcase and All-State Cabaret

6:45 PM - 7:00 PM Closing Ceremonies

All-State Cabaret:

Each school may have TWO representatives in the performance - One performer for the treble choir (soprano/alto/mezzo) AND One performer for the bass choir tenor/bass/baritone) Lancer Productions will conduct auditions to be the performer. Each school may also submit the name of ONE technician to apply for 4-6 total technician roles for the show. More Details: http://www.iowathespians.org/cabaret.html

College Scholarships

Seniors - you may prepare ONE scholarship audition and be eligible for the annual Thespian scholarships ($1,000 scholarships given to three participants) and college auditions. Therefore, ONE AUDITION WILL PROVIDE YOU MANY SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES!

Tech Challenge

Lancer Productions will enter two teams in Tech Challenge. The Tech Challenge is a series of events that are designed to test your knowledge of basic skills that every technician should have. The combination of team and individual events underline the principle that theatre technicians do not work alone and an ensemble that works together to accomplish the given tasks makes the production successful. Lancer Productions is the reigning state champion in Tech Challenge and we plan to bring home the championship again this year! - More Details: http://www.iowathespians.org/techchallenge.html

Individual Events

Students have an opportunity to participate in Individual Events, and compete to be selected for the Individual Events Showcase. Lancer Productions will cover the entry fees for anyone competing at ThesFest!

Iowa State Thespian Officers

The Iowa State Thespian Officers (STO) are the student leaders of the Iowa Thespian Chapter Board. The STO are selected at the 2019 Festival, and members serve from November, 2019 – November, 2020. They represent all Thespians in the state of Iowa through their efforts on the Iowa Thespian Chapter Board. The State Thespian Officers are selected during the weekend of the State Festival. LP Thespians wanting to complete this process must have attended the Iowa Thespian Leadership Day on 8/3/19 and must complete the application process with Stacie Kintigh.

Workshops:

If you are interested in acting, there will be workshops for you! If you are interested in singing, there will be workshops for you! If you are interested in improv or dancing or stage combat or hair and makeup or lighting, there will be workshops for you! Most workshops will get you actively involved and learning lots of interesting things about whatever area of theatre that interests you!
