It was a close battle between Payson High School and Davis High School, even though Davis brought significantly more athletes to the state meet. Going into the next-to-last event, the 220 yard dash, Davis held a 60-52 lead. In the 220 Jeff Carlisle took first place, catapulting Payson into first place. The Lions then sealed the victory with another win in the 4x400 meter relay. The final score was Payson-72 to Davis-60. To make the win even more special, it was accomplished on Coach Durant's birthday!
