Brent Olson
PHS Class of 1964
Football, Basketball, Track & Field
Brent Olson was an outstanding student and athlete at PHS. He exemplified what it means to be a multi-sport athlete and he excelled at them all: football, basketball, and track & field. Brent also participated and excelled in many other areas of PHS life: band, student government, and academics. His senior year, 1963-1964, he served as the Student Body President and graduated with High Honors in 1964.
Where Brent shined brightest, as an athlete, was in football. He played for Payson High under the legendary Coach Jim Durrant. In 1962 and 1963 Brent was named to the All-Region Team and in 1963 to the All-State Team. Most notably, in 1963, his senior season, Brent was named as All-American. That year he also served as the football team's Defensive Captain.
After graduating from Payson High School, he attended Brigham Young University on a full-tuition scholarship for football and leadership. In 1965 Brent helped BYU football win the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship, BYU's first conference championship in their history. He was also named to the Academic All-Conference Team in the WAC.
