Sandy Marvin

PHS Class of 2005

Basketball, Volleyball, Softball

Teamwork is a great strength of Sandy’s and will continue to shine throughout her life. Sandy is the first to admit she could never have accomplished all she was able to do without her friends, teammates, coaches, and family members. Through all of her goals and achievements Sandy has always retained the same motto that has continued to motivate her drive, “ the key to winning… is the way the team plays together… it was the factor of believing in ourselves and believing in each other. “ Sandy continues to believe and engage this motto.

In November 2004, Sandy was named as one of finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award where the nominees are honored for their academic, athletic, and community accomplishments.

In March 2005, the Payson girls’ basketball team won the 4 A State Championship – the first ever for Payson High. They played Timpview High and won 57 to 52. Sandy was named 4A State MVP by the Deseret Morning News and the Salt Lake Tribune. She was the top scorer in the state among 4A players both in her junior and senior seasons.

As an all-around athlete, Sandy also lettered in volleyball and softball for the Payson Lions. She was also named Academic All-State in volleyball, basketball, and softball.

Sandy went on to play basketball for four successful years at Utah Valley University (UVU), scoring over 1,000 points as a junior. She is one of only five players to score over 1,000 points for UVU, and the school's second player in their NCAA tenure to do so. She earned First Team All-Independent Honors in 2008. She was also named to the Division I Independent All-Academic Team,. She was also named D-I Independent Player of the Week twice; first on December 5, 2006, for her play against Idaho State (19 points) and Boise State (28 points), and second on December 4, 2007, after being named MVP of the Air Force Classic.

Sandy is the first to admit she could never have accomplished all she was able to do without her friends, teammates, coaches, and family support. Through all of her achievements Sandy has always retained the same motto that has continued to motivate her drive: “The key to winning… is the way the team plays together… it was the factor of believing in ourselves and believing in each other.” Team work is a great strength of Sandy’s and will continue to shine through her in her life.
