SEL Challenge: Chance to win!
Racing is a high-speed, split-second, decision-making environment, with high stakes. The stress of this can surely play an impact on racers and racing teams, as they compete to cross the finish line first. While teachers and students may not be moving at high speeds we often can feel like we are. There are high stakes when it comes to education and "crossing the finish line" and both teachers and students can feel the pressure of this. Therefore, this issue is devoted to ways that students can express feelings and emotions, connect with their peers, and help build a sense of community that we are all in this together.
That Adobe Express has interactive activities that support Social and Emotional Learning. These ready-to-use tools make it easy for teachers to integrate SEL naturally into everyday lessons.
The "Try the Fun Guided Activities" tab has several supplemental activities that lend itself to building community and culture in the classroom. Check out the "Community Quilt" or the "All About Me" graphic.
Here are a few things to consider as you look at ways to engage in social emotional learning:
Reflection Questions to consider when planning your lessons to help you integrate SEL.
Supporting SEL Through TECH: How Blended Learning Can Foster Social-Emotional Development
Consider:
Creating a Canvas video assignment to have students record personal and academic goals. After, teachers can conference with students one-on-one to discuss these goals and progress being made.
Creating a Google Slide or Microsoft Whiteboard where students can work together, collaboratively or share something about themselves. This allows students to grow and learn from and about each other. Example: A student timeline of life events or make a copy of Drag and Drop: What is your Mood, Today?
Conducting a Canvas discussion where students share experiences (see openers and closers) and make connections to the topic being taught. Students can even record video posts.
Support SEL through Adobe Express by creating a Daily Check in Journal. for students, have students create a Self-Care Poster, and/or a Gratitude board.
Monthly Digital Citizenship Lessons
This topic introduces students to the concept of online privacy and the potential implications of sharing private information with a range of people: friends, the public, app providers, and more. Sharing information about yourself can be a natural and healthy activity, and it can lead to positive connections and personal growth. However, it can also present safety risks, and students need to be aware of potentially harmful consequences such as identity theft and financial exploitation. Read more about this topic on the Common Sense Education website.
