Ideally we will have few negative behavior and many positive behaviors!
I believe it is important for the teacher to recognize when students are doing right!
With this in mind I have postcards that will go home when a student is going above and beyond!
Lincoln Elementary also has WOW tickets that are given for "Having HEART".
Within the first hours of class, beginning, on the very first day of school, students will participate in a teacher directed lesson on classroom rules and the ways they are expected to behave in the classroom. I am not a teacher that willingly sends a student to the office for behavioral issues, I prefer that students spend as much time as possible exposed to the information they will need to succeed. If a student is off task,
In the classroom the teachers do their best to establish classroom rules and guidelines for behavior. If behavior is so disruptive that other students are not able to learn; either because the student is off task repeatedly, causing a distraction so significant that it hinders instruction, or the behavior is potentially dangerous, a Behavior Warning may be given.
The behavior warning has two key components, location of the behavior (cafeteria, playground, classroom) and the action itself (disrespect, foul language, throwing, hitting, kicking, rough play or not following directions).
Behavior warnings are in triplicate, the white copy and the pink copy come home with the student for the parent to sign, then the white copy is returned to the teacher.
Multiple Behavior Warnings can effect a student's opportunities to participate in some classroom activities as well as all school activities like Beach Day or Field Trips.
Far more extreme than a Behavior Warning is a Principal's Referral. To the left you will see a copy of this document.
If the teacher's classroom behavior plan is not helping to correct the student's behavior, and after multiple other options and avenues have been attempted, a Principal's Referral may be given. If this occurs, the parents will also be contacted immediately by the school principal.
A Principal's referral may have an impact on field trips and other opportunities for activities at school.
