A Little Bit About Me

(I love learning and teaching about the endemic species of the Channel Islands, especially the Island Fox!)

I thought it would be helpful if you knew a little bit about me, so I have attached some pictures and information so you can get to know me a little better.

This is my family.

I have two sons, Taylor (on the right) is 31 years old and lives in Spokane, Washington. He is back in school getting a Master's degree. Nathan (on the left) is 29 years old. He loves to surf and work outside. Nate lives here in Ventura.

I have been married for 36 years! My husband, Tom, has just retired from the Ventura County Office of Education where he was the Business Director. Now, he is a (nearly) full time musician and helps in the classroom when he can.

I have been teaching here for Ventura Unified school District for the last 20 years!

  • Before I was a teacher I was a photographer, a Program Director for a health screening business and a phlobotomist.
  • I am a product of the Ventura Unified School system.
    • I went to Poinsettia, then Cabrillo, then Ventura High and finally to Ventura College.
    • I have a bachelor's Degree from California State University, Northridge.

In May of 2017, I completed my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at California State University, Channel Islands.

I love to go hiking, and travel to new places. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is walk along the beach from Ventura to Santa Barbara!

I read everyday!

I am learning all the time!

I knit, a lot! I love to create things! I also do wood turning and wood carving!

I am a runner! I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I do. My husband and I run about 5 miles nearly everyday!

This last summer I spent a few days on Santa Rosa Island and in June I will hike Catalina Island from one end to the other!

I volunteer with an organization called Channel Islands Restoration, and have worked on San Nicolas Island helping to restore native habitats.

I will have been to 6 of the eight Channel Islands! I still have to visit Santa Barbara, (I have a plan, just waiting for the pier to be rebuilt!)

San Clemente is VERY hard to visit...

I love to teach students about our Channel Islands.

Our Channel Islands are amazing places!
