Non-MRU Student Participants

Non-MRU Students Wanting to Join MRU Field Schools

Priority is given to current MRU students to join MRU international field schools however it is possible that non-MRU students can be accepted to join when space permits and with the consent and approval of both the field school instructor and the field school coordinator

A non-MRU student who is approved to join a field school offering will need to be aware of the following information that will apply to them:

Applying to MRU

The participant will need to be a registered MRU student for the field school semester. This entails applying to MRU and being accepted to MRU as an Open Studies student for the appropriate semester. Information on this process can be found at: https://www.mtroyal.ca/ProgramsCourses/ContinuingEducation/CentreforExtensionCredit/open/admission/index.htm

The participant is responsible for ensuring they have met all the application and admission requirements in a timely fashion in order to participate in the field school. Failure to be accepted and registered as a MRU student will result in the particpant being considered withdrawn from the field school.

Participation

Non-MRU participants are responsible for participating fully in all aspects of the field school including group meetings and pre-departure orientations that will take place prior to the field school semester. It is expected that all participants will make the necessary arrangements to be in attendance at these meetings.

In cases where the participant is currently studying outside of Calgary and hence cannot physically be present for these meetings, alternate arrangements will be proposed by the field school instructor and coordinator to provide them with the necessary information.

Program Fee Payments

The participant will be subject to the same costs as current-MRU students as it pertains to the field school itself.

Because program fees cannot be collected until the participant is set up and registered as a MRU student, they will not be able to pay the program fees using the same processes outlined in this manual. The field school coordinator will discuss the payment plan for these students individually however participants should be aware that withdrawing from the program at anytime will leave them subject to the field school refund policy and they will be liable for any fees owing even if they have not yet been pre-paid.

Transfer Credit

Non-MRU participants wishing to earn transfer credit for the field school courses at their home institution are responsible for working through the appropriate transfer credit process with their home institution. They are also responsible for ordering an official MRU transcript to be sent to their home institution once the final grades are posted.

Note: Any additional costs incurred by a non-MRU student participating in a MRU field school (such as but not limited to the MRU application fee, costs for transcripts, additional costs for travel from/to Calgary, etc.) are the sole responsibility of the participant and should be considered prior to joining the field school.
