Students participating in field schools can apply for financial assistance for their field school experience by way of Student Aid (student loans) through the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office at MRU (E 102 or 403-440-6223). Participants must complete and submit a paper application plus the schedule 3 form available on the Student Aid Alberta website. For those students who access out of province Student Aid, please contact your provincial lender directly.
Prior to submitting the application, participants must contact the Field School Coordinator and request a letter of confirmation of their enrollment in the field school. This document will be processed by the Coordinator and sent directly to the Students Awards Office where they will correlate it with your paper application. This letter is a requirement to obtain loan funding for an international field school experience.
Important Note: Participants must understand that receiving a student loan to assist with the payment of the Field School does not permit a student to miss a program fee payment deadline. Loan monies are not usually disbursed until the semester when the field school is taking place therefore participants must make arrangements to have monies available to meet the Program Fee payment deadlines and for other expenses such as the purchase of flights and insurance that will occur in advance of the Student Aid disbursement.
Field school participants can explore various opportunities to apply for Grants and Scholarships through Mount Royal University.
The Office of International Education administers various grants each academic year for students participating in international programming. Specific details on the grants can be found online from International Education and include the following:
The Experiential Learning Fund (E.L.F.) offered by SAMRU is another opportunity for field school student to apply for grant funding. Information and application instructions for this grant can be found at www.samru.ca.
Students whose education expenses are sponsored by an independent third party and who wish to have their costs of participating in a field school covered should speak directly to their sponsor about the possibility. If the sponsor agrees to cover the field school costs (Program Fees plus Tuition) a detailed letter from the sponsor stating the amount that they will cover must be provided to the Field School Coordinator and MRU Financial Services in order for the fees to be waived until the sponsorship funds arrive to MRU.
If funding does not come through the student will be withdrawn from the field school and will not be able to continue with the field school unless other arrangements for payment is made.
