Academics

Academic Credit

Participants will earn direct Mount Royal credit for the course(s) completed providing they successfully meet both the academic and program requirements for the field school.

A formal course outline including details on evaluation and grading will be developed and provided by the Field School Instructor.

All field school courses are subject to the academic regulations, policies and procedures as outlined in the Mount Royal University Academic Calendar.

Advising

Participants are responsible for ensuring that the course(s) being completed as part of the field school will fit into their academic program. To determine if/where the course(s) will fit, students are encouraged to speak directly with their program's Academic Advisor before applying.

Students in Open Studies must ensure that the field school courses fall within their 30 credit (10 course) Open Studies limit or that they will have been accepted into a specific program/degree prior to the field school semester.

Pre-Requisites

Some field school courses have pre-requisites. In some cases, the department will agree to waive certain pre-requisites to allow interested students to participate in the field school.

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary pre-requisites for the course(s) or, if a pre-requisite is being waived, that they have completed the pre-requisite waiver form to be submitted to the Office of Registrar at time of course registration.

Some courses will have recommended preparation courses. Regardless of recommended preparation or pre-requisites, applicants must ensure they have sufficient background knowledge in the subject area to participate successfully in the field school.

Questions regarding the academic aspect of the program should be directed to the Field School Instructor.

Accessibility Services and Academic Accommodation

Participants who are interested in being part of a field school program and who utilize the services of Accessibility Services for academic or other types of accommodation should meet with their Access Advisor and the Field School Instructor prior to registering in the Field School to determine if/how reasonable accommodations can be made. Each field school environment is unique and while all possible efforts will be made to support student needs, it cannot be guaranteed that the same supports and services accessed locally at Mount Royal will be available to be accessed in the international location and field school environment.
