YOGA
Definition
Yoga is a mind and body practice that incorporates physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation/relaxation.
Yoga is not a religion.
When done properly, yoga has been proven to improve balance, strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance while reducing stress and anxiety.
GRADE LEVEL
6th Grade:
Introduction to Yoga
Beyond Basic Yoga for Dummies (Instructional DVD)
Master the 12 essential yoga postures
De-stress and relax through yoga practice
Experience the benefits of proper yoga breathing techniques
Build strength and muscle tone by using yoga postures
End all classes in relaxation pose
7th Grade:
P90x Stretch (Instructional DVD)
Contains several different exercise routines that target various muscle groups or focus on one aspect of athleticism.
Various stretching exercises and yoga poses.
Emphasis on the Sun Salutation
Assessment will be given to check proper form of the Sun Salutation.
End all classes with relaxation pose.
8th Grade:
P90X Yoga (Instructional DVD)
Emphasis on Warrior 1, 2 and 3
Vigorous, fitness-based approach to yoga
Emphasis on strength and flexibility
Assessment on Warrior 1,2 & 3
End all classes in relaxation pose
