Definition: a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of the court.
General Rules:
Teams will be divided based on the amount of students in the class.
If the ball goes out of bounds it is a change of possession and taken out of bounds.
There are no foul shots.
If a foul occurs possession remains with the same team and taken out of bounds.
Do not take shots that are out of your range.
Teams are expected to referee their own game (call your own). With this the saying is "Make the call, respect the call"
Be aware of the skill level of your teammates. Involve everyone and make passes that your teammate can attempt to catch safely.
After any change of possession or after a point is scored, the opposing team takes the ball out from behind the WHITE LINE.
General Rule Violations:
Traveling: a violation of the rules that occurs when a player holding the ball moves one or both of their feet illegally. When a player has taken more than two steps without the ball being dribbled, a traveling violation is called.
Carrying: referred to as palming, is a violation in the game of basketball. It occurs when the dribbling player continues to dribble after allowing the ball to come to rest in one or both hands.
Double Dribble: an illegal action in basketball made when a player dribbles the ball with two hands simultaneously or continues to dribble after allowing the ball to come to rest in one or both hands.
Foul: an infraction of the rules more serious than a violation. Most fouls occur as a result of illegal personal contact with an opponent and/or unsportsmanlike behavior.
