Wheeler Community,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! The summer newsletters can seem overwhelming with a lot of information, but it will greatly help your family's success if you are familiar with all things 2024-2025 at Wheeler. We have a FANTASTIC school with involved families, exceptional teachers, and engaged students.
Don't hesitate to contact me anytime with questions, celebrations, or concerns. All Wheeler staff members strive to provide your child with the best educational experience possible. Our next Growler will be sent out on Wednesday, August 7th, with a couple of first-day-of-school reminders.
I look forward to working with you during the 2024-2025 school year, and we will see you all very soon at Open House on Tuesday, August 6th!
Dr. Courtney Manzitto
Principal
Classroom teachers will be emailing families with your child's classroom placement on
Monday, August 5th by 5pm.
Teacher assignments are based on many factors including academic need, a blending of students, and gender balance. This work is done as a large team during the early spring of the prior year. Following these considerations, placement is assigned. We have great teachers, supportive parents, and super kids. Please know much thought has been given to the placement of each child.
On the top of the page, click Parent Hub to see some common information throughout the year for your reference! We know there is always a sea of information and we hope this is something that helps.
Do you have an idea of something that you wish was on the Parent Hub that you feel like you would like easy access to? Let Mr. Wunderlich know (gjwunderlich@mpsomaha.org).
We are also asking that you plan to attend the following time slots by the first letter of your last name. This is recommended, but not required if it doesn't work for your schedule. On Thursday, 8/8 only students will be entering the building, so if they need assistance, please plan to bring school supplies to Open House. This not only helps with parking, it allows better opportunities for teachers to welcome students and families.
Recommended Staggered Open House Schedule
5:00-5:30PM- Families A-F
5:30-6:00PM- Families G-O
6:00-6:30PM- Families P-Z

**TRAFFIC MAPS COMING SOON**
Safety is always the most important- it's our #1 rule! The first few days back at school are always a little more hectic. We will have a lot of staff members outside to assist with traffic flow and safety. We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and respect in advance. Please follow the listed safety guidelines whenever children are dropped off or picked up at school.
Observe all posted signage related to traffic.
Always remain in your car when dropping off/picking up your child(ren) along the curbs. Staff members will be available to assist your children in exiting or entering a vehicle.
Children should exit/enter cars only through the curbside door.
Please observe arrival and dismissal times.
Having your child at school on time is important, as classes start promptly at 8:30.
Dismissal time is also essential as staff members have additional responsibilities at the end of each school day. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday dismissal is at 3:30, and Wednesdays, we dismiss at 2:30.
M/T/Th/F Afternoon supervision is from 3:30-3:40. Please make sure your children are picked up by 3:40.
W Afternoon supervision is from 2:30-2:40. Please make sure your children are picked up by 2:40.
We love having visitors and partnering with parents, grandparents, and community volunteers! Please refer to the following district policies as a refresher for the new school year.
Visiting Wheeler or Picking Up Early
We put student and staff safety first. We will always follow district policy 5740.1.
Buzz the Front Office for Entry.
Share your First and Last Name and the reason for your visit.
Show your ID to our office staff for verification and to receive your visitor's badge.
Volunteers
We will follow district policy for screening procedures for volunteers in the classroom. This policy applies to all persons who are not district employees, current students, parents, or grandparents of current students.
SCHOOL HOURS: 8:30-3:30 - Mon, Tues, Th, Fri &. 8:30-2:30 - Wednesdays
Teachers will meet their students outside at 8:10. All teachers will have a sign with their names.
See the image for where you can approximately meet your child's teacher. Once teachers have all of their students, they will lead students into the building.
Please plan to say your goodbyes in the car or at the entrance; we will not be screening guests for entry into the building as our focus will be on the students.
You will be guided into the health room if you need to drop off medication.
Please plan with your child ahead of time. It can be stressful for students when they do not know how they are getting home. After-school plans should be set with your child before the school day starts to alleviate interruptions in the classroom during instruction.
Medication is given at school only when necessary. All unexpired medication (prescription or non-prescription) must be brought to school by an adult in the original container. Do not send medication with a student or in their backpack. A current medication card must be on file in the health room for any medication to be given to students at school. You can complete this process during Open House in the office.
Please click here to view all information regarding Food Services in Millard. You can find My School Bucks (fund your student's meals), meal prices, menus, and free and reduced information. If a family qualifies for free and reduced, it is confidential, and school personnel cannot access the list of eligible students.
