Well...winter is here?! Shorts and t-shirts on Tuesday and Snow Days on Thursday & Friday....that's Nebraska! We have some really exciting upcoming things at Wheeler: One School One Book is rocking and rolling - we hope your family is enjoying The Smartest Kid in the Universe!, Read Across America, spring field trips, parent teacher conferences, and more! An important note - please make sure to sign up for parent/teacher conferences. Details are below. We are striving for 100% participation for these conferences!

We hope your family is enjoying diving into our One School, One Book selection, The Smartest Kid in the Universe, as much as we are! There is something truly special about knowing that every student, teacher, and family in our community is turnignthe same pages at the same time. Whether you're reading together before bed or chatting about the latest chapter over dinner, we hope this book is sparking some great conversations and a little extra magic in your home. Read across America

March 2nd-6th

We are just a couple of weeks away from Read Across America Week! 🌟 Starting March 2nd we will be celebrating the joy and power of reading books. This year's theme is "The Great Reading Expedition"! Since we're working on building a love and excitement for reading we will have a week full of reading activities at school. To make our expedition even more fun, students can dress up to match the theme each day!

2026-2027 Class List parent Input- due 2/27

Wheeler will begin the process of creating class lists for the 2026-2027 school year. When we create class lists, our primary objective is to provide positive experiences for all students. We work to create balanced classrooms that address different personalities, abilities, special needs, learning styles, peer relations and balance boys, girls, etc.

Our school team (teachers, admin, specialists, counselors, interventionists, etc.) spends a great deal of time creating class lists. The teachers know the children in the school environment and have unique insights into their social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs. In short, we feel we have a strong system in place for determining placements.

While we DO NOT accept specific teacher requests by name - we do want to provide parents with an opportunity to communicate any special needs and considerations. Please do not feel obligated to send us information unless you feel it will enhance our ability to make the best placement for your child.

However, if you do choose to offer input please do so by sending Mrs. Kochsmeier an email (kmkochsmeier@mpsomaha.org) by February 27th stating the requested considerations. Administration will then review the information and send available dates/times of meeting options (if needed) prior to the beginning of March. We will ask for your time to meet during our Parent/Teacher Conferences in early March.
