What type of pathway does VCE HPE help with?
The study also prepares students for employment and/or further study at the tertiary level or in vocational education and training settings in fields such as exercise and sport science, health science, education, recreation, sport development and coaching, health promotion.
VCE Physical Education
Are there any practical lessons in this subject?
Physical Education is a theoretically based subject but within the study design the program must include P.E lessons to help understand the key aspects from the study design. This is not just playing games such as basketball but is based on looking at concepts you have learnt in your lessons.
How many periods we will have a week?
4 X 1- hours periods.
How many assessment tasks should there be for VCE?
In Unit 1 and 2 there should be at least one assessment task for each outcome.
In units 3 and 4 The study design specifies the minimum number of SACs and the weighting of marks for each outcome. See study designs link to look further into SAC information.

VCE Health and Human Development
Are there any practical lessons in this subject?
Health and Human Development is not a Practical physical education class so we do not do physical activity practicals. However, there are many hands-on activities and group tasks used throughout the lessons.
How many periods a week will we have Health and Human Development?
4 x 1-hour periods.
How many assessment tasks should there be for Units 1 and 2?
In Unit 1 and 2 there should be at least one assessment task for each outcome. In Unit 1 there are three outcomes therefore as a minimum there should be three assessment tasks. In Unit 2 there are two outcomes which means there should be a minimum of two assessment tasks. Teachers can always decide to set more than the minimum number of assessment tasks.
How many SACs are required for Unit 3 and Unit 4?
The study design specifies the minimum number of SACs and the weighting of marks for each outcome for Unit 3 (see page 19) and Unit 4 (see page 23). Each outcome is assessed using one or more tasks. As there are two outcomes in both Unit 3 and Unit 4, this means a minimum of two assessment tasks are required for each Unit. Teachers can always decide to set more than the minimum number of assessment tasks.
