Key Stage 2 (ages 7-10 ) comprises four Year Groups: form 3, form 4, form 5 and form 6.
Teachers provide stimulating activities to build up pupil confidence and harness natural curiosity. Children thereby achieve high levels of knowledge, skills and understanding while enjoying the learning process.
Our approach promotes a variety of skills and offers scope for the development of many different concepts. We emphasise active investigative methods to facilitate purposeful learning and to encourage independence, while at the same time ensuring that the main requirements of the English National Curriculum are covered.
In addition to English and Maths, children also study Art, Science and Technology, Topic (which includes History and Geography objectives from the National Curriculum), Computing, Music, P.E and French. Children will also learn about personal, social, health economic education and citizenship (PSHE).
In general, Key Stage Two children work mainly with one class teacher, although certain subjects, such as Music and Physical Education and French, are studied with specialist teachers.
On the first day back to school we ask that new children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 enter school with parents via the main gate.
Those of you returning please use Gate 3 as normal.
On the first day new parents may wait by the main entrance with your child until the bell goes and the teachers come out to collect their classes. You can then allow your child to go over to their class line. After the first day children should be dropped at the gate.
If they are upset please allow a member of staff to take them to settle them down. It is better if this happens, for you to leave as quickly as possible. This, we are aware, is distressing for you as well as them, but it helps them to settle so much quicker. We are happy for you to phone school after a short while so that you can check up on them if you wish.
Your child may bring their own small bag with a snack and a water bottle each day. Please remember we do not allow nut or nut products in school.
It is always worth ensuring they have a change of clothes that can be kept in school for an emergency and we do recommend a lightweight waterproof coat is kept in school for unexpected rainy days.
Please ensure that all clothes/coats are labelled with their name.
Children go to the canteen for lunch. If you wish them to have a packed lunch you may provide this. If they are eating from the canteen staff will be there to assist them.
Specific information for your child will come from their class teachers within that first week.
