Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. During the Primary phase, children begin to develop a sense of independence and to feel more “grown up” in the Key Stage 1 (ages 5 to 7).
Working via the English National Curriculum they make excellent progress in oral comprehension and expression, literacy, numeracy and social skills. All subjects in Form 1 and 2 are taught in English and the practical methodology synonymous with the English National Curriculum means that different types of learners are able to progress at different rates.
As they start school in September we recognise that this can be a worrying time for the younger children and for you as parents.
On the first day back to school we ask that children in Years 1 and 2 enter school with parents via Gate 4 at the bottom end of the car park.
This is your drop off in the morning for the remainder of the year.
Gate 3 will be your collection point at the end of the day for the remainder of the year.
Please go with your child to help them find their coat peg and then to go into the classroom, but can we please ask that you try to move away from them as soon as possible so that teachers can settle them quickly.
If they are upset please allow a member of staff to take them to settle them down. It is better if this happens, for you to leave as quickly as possible. This, we are aware, is distressing for you as well as them, but it helps them to settle so much quicker. We are happy for you to phone school after a short while so that you can check up on them if you wish.
Your child may bring their own small bag with a snack and a water bottle each day. Please remember we do not allow nut or nut products in school.
It is always worth ensuring they have a change of clothes that can be kept in school for an emergency and we do recommend a lightweight waterproof coat is kept in school for unexpected rainy days.
Please ensure that all clothes/coats are labelled with their name.
Years 1 and 2 go to the canteen for lunch. If you wish them to have a packed lunch you may provide this. If they are eating from the canteen staff will be there to assist them.
After the first day parents will not be allowed into the classrooms. You must drop your child at the gates. Staff will be available to help them if needed.
