5D - Honouring Our Community Heroes

Honouring Our Community Heroes

Date: 5 May 2017

Synopsis: Within our community, we have heard anecdotes how some residents have been lending their hands to those in need. As part of the Kind Act initiative, Class 5D has decided to honour these unsung heroes who have been contribution to the society, in one way or another. Pupils have thoughtfully identified and nominated their own Community Hero, based on the interaction with their neighbours or recommendation by their parents. These heroes are also conferred a title based how they have made a difference to the community – Life Hero, Environmental Hero, Care Hero, Safety Hero, Security Hero and the list goes on.

The pupils have turned everyday item, plastic bags, and crafted them into rose petals. Each of the Community Hero was given these plastic roses and a card expressing words of appreciation and affirmation.

From this initiative, besides learning how to upcycle everyday item into a momentous object, pupils were inspired how their heroes have put themselves before others and gone the extra mile to reach out in order to give back to the society. Everyone could contribute in a small way or another to make a positive impact and inspire the generations to come.
