In this unit learners explore how data is transferred over the internet. Learners initially focus on addressing, before they move on to the makeup and structure of data packets. Learners then look at how the internet facilitates online communication and collaboration; they complete shared projects online and evaluate different methods of communication. Finally, they learn how to communicate responsibly by considering what should and should not be shared on the internet.
In our first lesson of computing we learned what an IP (Internet Protocol) address is and what a DNS (Domain Name Server) is. In this lesson I learnt what IP stands for and why we use IP addresses. I learnt a lot in this lesson about what an Internet Protocol address is used for and how its structured.

In our first computing lesson we learned about IP (stands for Internet Protocol) addresses and what a DNS (stands for Domain Name Server) is and stands for. I learnt a lot of new stuff I didn't know in this lesson: what an IP address and DNS is, why we use it, and how it is used. I learnt a lot of information in this lesson, I learnt how an IP address works.

Today, our class watched a live lesson about Safer Internet Day and learned about how we can be safer online. We also looked at the risks but also the positive sides of gaming online. We shared tips on what you can do if someone bullies or harasses you online. It was also very important to learn the benefits of using the internet. After the video, we made posters about the rules we should follow online.

After watching the BBC Live Lesson about Safer Internet Day, our class discussed rules to stay safe online, such as: Do not download any restricted apps (12+). Once we all agreed on what rules to display on a poster, we were put into groups. Each group had their own rule to write and design on A4 papers. Once everyone finished, we cut out each rule and created a Class Charter for Internet Safety Rules, which we all signed.

We took part in a live stream of a Barclays Coding Playground Workshop where we used Scratch to create codes and design a Safer Internet Quiz.
