Technology
Year 1 have been finding out what technology is.
They learned that technology is something that has been made by people, to help people.
We learnt that chairs, pencil sharpeners and rulers are technology, but trees and the weather are not technology.
Hudaa "A mobile is technology".
Haaris " A tree is not technology."
The computer and telephone are not the only examples of technology in our classroom.
A glue stick is technology.
Gabriel "A pencil is technology."
We identified how some examples of technology help us.
Rosie 'A lap top helps us to learn.'
Abdel-Rahim - ' Cars help us to go places.'
Using technology
30th January 2023
This week in computing we have been learning about the different parts of a computer, how to switch on and log into a computer and how to use a mouse or trackpad to click and drag.
The parts of a computer are called mouse, screen, keyboard and base unit.
There are two types of computer called a laptop computer and a desktop computer.
We practised our trackpad skills with a jigsaw game.
I can use a trackpad to click and drag.

The children had fun exploring the different tools.
Internet Safety Day
After watching a special assembly on staying healthy online, we discussed what we had learnt.
As this is a unit we have previously discussed widely, all students were confident in suggesting that they shouldn't talk to strangers, to keep personal information private and to ensure they talk to an adult if they are unsure of anything on the internet.
We also shared our thoughts on how long we should be spending online, staring into our screens, and whether we have been making healthy choices.
We watched a 30-minute assembly during which we learnt about how we can stay safe and how to act responsibly and wisely in an increasingly digital world. The assembly had plenty of tips and advice from some of the biggest personalities on the web.
Don't believe everything you see on the internet. Beware of fake news!
Always speak to a trusted adult if you have any doubts or feel uncomfortable.
Be respectful of others!
Haaris: If a question pops up and you don't know what it means, do not press it!
Frankie: When online don't tell anyone your personal information. Keep it private!
Hudaa: If you stay on the internet too long your eyes will hurt and you will need glasses!
Eva: You need to have rests when you are on the internet.
Ayesha: Don't give your number or personal information to people. You don't who they are!
Allessia: You have to be aware of what is going on around you- there might be a fire alarm or someone might be telling you that your lunch is ready!
