Computing lessons with Wagtail class!
Wagtail class have been focusing on online safety this term - we are going to be continuing this throughout the year. They have been focusing on why it is important that we stay safe whilst using the internet, especially when playing our favourite games online!
They have been discussing the dangers of using the internet unsafely, and how we can ensure we remain protected.
Roblox seems to be a class favourite. However, it does have its disadvantages. Firstly, we discussed that when playing Roblox, it is not always only our friends that are also playing - there are also strangers. Wagtails discussed with their partners and then shared with the class what to do when a stranger try to add us on Roblox.
They also learnt about pop up ads when playing games on our iPads or tablets.
Spring Term 1:
This Spring Wagtail class have continued their learning by exploring all things technology.
When sharing ideas, many students in the class thought technology meant to only use a computer, laptop or iPad/tablet. They did not realise it also means to use a piece of equipment to carry out a task - that means a piece of technology can also be a vehicle or even a flashlight.
The students all discused the different types of technology they know of and then went on search around the class to find more.
When gaining access to the laptop students have been practicing how to use their email addresses and passwords to login. They are gradually gaining momentum in how to use such tools. Some students have mistaken the screen to be much like their iPads/tablets as being touch screen; however, are quick to learn that they must use their mice.
Roza enjoyed her lesson, whereby she familiarised herself with Paint, and painted a face.
Lyna thoroughly enjoyed creating her paintings. She started off her practice by creating a character from her imagination.
Yasmin really quickly got a hang of things and jumped towards using a range of colours. Very experimental!
Subhaan practiced painting on his laptop using a range of colours, and looked at using different shades of green to create a portrait.
Urwa explored the different features. She painted a portrait using both the paintbrush and pencil features.
Srisayan found that painting circles was a bit tricky, so he figured out a different way, which was to paint dots to create the shapes he desired.
Throughout the term, students have been learning about technology and to draw our unit to an end we thought we'd put our skills to the test!
Students used their mice and keyboard skills to login to their laptops and use them responsibly.
Using digital resources will be our unit for next term, so this lesson will ensure that the students have had their preparation and will be confident with the learning that is yet to come.
Well done Wagtail class!
Internet Safety Day
After watching a live assembly this morning on staying healthy online, Wagtails discussed what we had learnt.
As this is a unit we have previously discussed widely, all students were confident in suggesting that they shouldn't talk to strangers, to block all trolls, and to ensure we talk to an adult if we are unsure of anything on the internet.
We also shared our thoughts on how long we should be spending online, staring into our screens, and whether we have been making healthy choices.
Inayah has drawn a computer. She spoke about how to stay stay online, and who her trusted adults are if she is to ever feel unsafe or unsure of anything when using the internet.
Adriana is very fond of using the internet, especially when playing games. She is also very understanding of the dangers and has expressed that will always be responsible when online, as her picture suggests.
