In the first lesson the children were introduced to the concepts of input, process, and output. These concepts are fundamental to all digital devices.
The children then completed two tasks. The first where they explored inputs and outputs. The second task they looked at processes. They had to come up with their own processes for their own input/output machines.
This week the children have been looking at the parts that make up a digital device and then working on designing their own. We had some great designs. The Everything Computer, The Me Me Mic and lots more.
This week the children looked at how digital devices can help us. Firstly, we spoke about what a digital device can do and that some have more than one function. Then we used PaintZ on the chromebooks to create a piece of art. Some of us found it easier creating our art work on the computer but some of us found it quite tricky and preferred to use paper and paint.
This week the children in Barn Owl class explored the concept of connections and moving information between connected devices. The children learned to explain how and why computers are joined together to form networks.
First of all, they thought about the people that are connected to them and then how everyone is connected to each other. Finally, we wrote messages to others in the class and passed them around the room without getting out of our seats. This helped us understand how messages are passed to different devices connected on a network.
In class we watched an assembly on Safer Internet Day https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons/safer-internet-day-2023-live-lesson/zmkwmbk
We joined in with the discussions on the video and spoke about what are good things to share on a gaming profile and not so good.
Later in class, we took part in a lesson on 'screen time' and spoke about the benefits of screen time but also the negatives. Finally, Miss Harper shared with us Billy's story.
Billy is having his friends over for a sleepover on Saturday and has just remembered that his dad recently dropped their tablet also they are having their TV replaced and the new one will not be ready until Monday!
The children were tasked with putting together a comic strip to show Billy's sleepover with his friends and what activites they could do that involved no screens.
