Lesson 1: Systems
LO: To explain that computers can be connected together to form systems.
Lesson 1: Systems
LO: To explain that computers can be connected together to form systems.
We wrote in some inputs and outputs for our digital teddy.
We also wrote down the processes involved when an input is made till an outcome is achieved.
In this lesson, we learnt that there are 3 features which makes a system. These are input, process and the output. Our bear has a button (input), the process is the signal sent to the voicebox. The teddy then says 'Hello'(output).
Lesson 2: Computer systems and us.
LO: To recognise the role of computer systems in our lives.
We compared two digital systems on road crossings, a sensor and timed crossing. If someone presses the button on a sensor crossing and walks away, the light will not stop. On a timed crossing the green man light will still go green even though no-one is there.
We also looked at the system involved when an order is placed and worked out the stages by placing them in order. We then discussed which task is done by a computer and which is done by a person.
Lesson 3: Searching the web.
LO: To experiment with search engines.
We compared different search engines. We found out that if we didn't refine our search we couldn't find the answer we need.
We then decided to search up numbers of black rhinos in the wild so that we get appropriate results on different search engines.
Lesson 4: Effective use of search engines
LO: To describe how search engines select results.
In this lesson we explored the use of indexes in books and created an index for items in our classroom by documenting where each
