The start of the Covid-19 outbreak was something that impacted absolutely everyone. Some are fortunate enough to have the privilege to work from home, while others would suffer from bankruptcy or even instances where companies would furlough their employees which results to the loss of their jobs and their income, leaving no choice but to change their lifestyle. Regardless, the pandemic has plunged the global economy into the worst recession since World War II. Although, different countries means different outbreak responses. There was a lack of discipline in following health protocols among the Indonesian government officials and a failure to improve testing capacity which could conclude the nation’s failure in handling the outbreak. Some are against the actions the Indonesian government has taken in implementing the measures due to the fact that it had caused an increase on the number of cases of Covid patients through reopening the economy during the peak of the outbreak in Indonesia.
On the other note, some suggests the reasons behind the way they had handled the situation was reasonable given the economic position the nation was in which forced the government to reopen the economy regardless of numbers. Due to my interest in politics, I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and create an analysis exploring the two parties’ different perspectives. The goal of this project is to step out of my comfort zone and analyse the perspectives of politicians and different career fields on their Covid-19 intake through a documentary. Though, my efforts would be limited to online interviews as we all need to practice social distancing which makes my project challenging in light of the prospect that I would need to deliver a high quality documentary only through online sessions. Moreover, in order for a successful execution, I would need to make sure I have prior research on how to produce a proper documentary whilst delivering a thorough analysis. I also need to be able to make my documentary entertaining enough to the target audience which will require animating and quality video editing skills which I have yet to acquire. I have close to no experience on animating while editing is something that was self taught. With that being said, figuring out how to animate and edit a video is something that would be challenging though, would allow me to expand my skills and knowledge on those areas which is a part of stepping out of my comfort zone.
Fairness and development is the global context that my project mostly engages in as it explores the rights and responsibilities us as society have to carry out especially in the current outbreak. It is now, more than ever when human rights are needed to navigate this conflict in a way that will allow us to focus again on achieving equitable sustainable development and sustaining peace. Democracy, politics, government and civil society represents the communities and relationship that will bet explored through the analysis of the two views regarding on the global pandemic which makes it highly relevant.
The documentary that I have produced titled “From Crisis to Catastrophe” has exceeded all my initial expectations. After much thought and organisation, I successfully gathered and organised opinions in an unbiased manner, logically and coherently, with ideas and information building upon each other. The product could be easily accessed by everyone as it is yet to be uploaded to a media platform called youtube. I am proud to say that this documentary piece analyses and evaluates major alternate perspectives while presenting salient arguments supported by claims and reasons within the global context of identities and relationships and fairness and development. The editing of my existing documentary however, is something that I am also proud of. Learning through the After Effects basic have definitely payed off, as after I self assessed my product, it has achieved it’s initial goal. Without the efforts of my editing, the documentary would not have made the cut as it would not have helped the film successfully deliver the information in an organised manner logically and in a way which does not have any biased thoughts.
In honesty, I have learned more than what I have expected to because I have learned it from direct experience using my own way of knowing. This experience, especially interviewing people from different parties has really taught me how different our perspectives are despite undergoing the pandemic together. Even though I did learned much information that I could’ve ever gotten through the internet, I have learned more skills.
Since researching plays such a huge role in the completion of my Personal Project, it has really made me realise how important it was to start broad, then dive into specifics or even recognising quality sources. Through these skills that I have acquired, it has allowed me to ask relevant questions during my interviews and even through those interviews, it allowed me to keep on learning and hearing from many different perspectives that are often not displayed in the media. I had to reflect these opinions and organise them in order to produce a well written analysis. I also find myself really enjoying the amount of research I had to do, especially when learning how to use After Effects.
My project really required me to be knowledgeable. I needed to explore concepts, issues and different ideas that has a global significance. Through the course, I was able to gain in depth knowledge upon my topics and develop understandings across a broad and balanced range of disciplines. I used my prior knowledge of Model United Nations in researching and communicating, which also reflects myself as a communicator. In order to allow myself to gain crucial information and different opinions, I needed to express myself confidently and clearly while collaborating effectively and listening carefully to other’s perspectives as it is a big part of my project. Deciding and committing to this long term project alone made me an inquirer because I had developed a natural curiosity which drove me to independent learning. Despite all the problems I have encountered, I have developed as a thinker. Finding multiple ways to solve a certain problem while making reasoned, ethical decisions.
