My learning goal is to develop digital illustrations that encapsulates my personal feelings. I loved to draw ever since I was at a young age, I would usually draw objects, people, environments, and shapes with my coloring materials. I would normally enclose some of my feelings just because I thought it would have no use but perhaps it’s just me being quite critical of myself. But if there’s anything my art lessons taught me, expressing yourself is one of the keys to creating good artwork. The correlation between emotions and art is that art can give us emotional satisfaction rather than managing on our own With a Personal Project, I may have the time in my hands to do a hobby of mine but at the same time try to improve on what I’ve lacked.
The product I will be creating will be 5 different drawings that show the expressions of some of my feelings. These drawings are based on some experiences I had that make up these feelings, whether that be during school or with my family. Once my product will be complete, some people can try to reflect and find some relatability within these artworks. For me to make the appropriate success criteria for my product, I would have to remember how my art lessons grade a student’s artwork. I will be assessing my product based on quality, expression, context, and creativity
During the process in making all these drawings, I started to grow an appreciation on how unique each one of them looks. I think it was worth it for me to spend some time during the holidays because I was able to have memorable events at that time. But in other times, it’s things that I have been repressing for a while. That left me with different emotions that really helped in what I want to express in my drawings. It also gave me an opportunity to develop more in my art skills by getting some inspirations or references. It really is interesting how art is not only used to paint based on real people but also a space where one can discover their creativity and expression. It also made me realize that not all my artworks have to be perfect than I intended, but each one has to have a meaning behind it. Overall, I did a solid job in creating each of these illustrations and I was able to feel better in doing this.
By using the following success criteria, I can use this to assess each drawing based on all the requirements that make the drawing good. Most of the drawings were consistent in meeting the success criteria. However, from drawings 3 to 4, the criteria for Quality, Expression, and Context begin to decrease. The highest score coming from the 2nd drawing while the 5th drawing has the lowest score. And I think the reason why the 2nd drawing was successful was because the color choices, tone, and aesthetics fits well with the topic I choose. This may go with drawings 3 and 4 which are also great, but I feel like there are still things that I can improvise like the shapes or more abstract ideas I should’ve used that can make the art deeper. The 1st drawing seems alright to me but what it lacks is the abstract elements that could have emphasis to the emotion I choose. The reason why the 5th drawing had the lowest was because I was still a bit unsure about using cubism. I felt like I didn’t really get the gist on how I can make a cubism through the shapes or lines I can use. Also, the colors look confusing at first glance because it does not really rely on a specific theme. What I can do to improve is to either do more practice in making cubism art or I experiment with other art expressions.
