ARKA SATYAANDIPA ASMARA
When I was back in elementary school I wasn't very confident with how I had looked around my classmates, people used to call me names like “Arka-dut” meaning Arka is a fatty. Although people thought it was a little funny, it really got into my head and affected me as I started to grow more as a person. I started to shut myself away from other people because I didn’t want them to assume things about me. I felt like I was growing more unhealthy and developed habits that really aren't good for my health and socially from 2nd grade to 5th. I then started to try and change myself at 6th grade by going to my ice hockey practices 5 times a week. However, later on in the middle of 8th grade Covid 19 hit, and all ice rinks were closed. Now, this definitely set me back a lot since I could only practice on the ice rink. This then developed my bad habits again and started to have an unhealthy lifestyle through unbalanced nutrition and lack of movement. Now I definitely wanted to try and exercise and feel more confident in my own body and at the same time, I want to develop positive habits of working out as a weekly routine. I aspire to become a person that one person can look up to or reach out to when asked about how they feel about themselves. Therefore my learning goal for this personal project is The effects of developing a healthy lifestyle towards physical and mental changes.
Based on my learning goal, I decided that my product goal is to create a video journal documenting my physical changes and what habits I have adapted to. I chose to create a video journal because by using a video I will be able to see how much I can change in a few months if I put the effort into myself. The video journal will be assessed by these 3 criteria: Content of video, Daily habits, and Nutritional value. With these 3 criteria, I should be able to determine if my video has reached my goal.
Once I had finished my product goal, I felt relieved that I actually did something about how i felt about myself last year that definitely took a lot of determination and hard work to achieve. Obviously, with me not having to exercise and just staying in my room ever since the pandemic started, there were obviously problems I would run into like my diet, the will to exercise, and how i generally felt at that time. But after reflecting back to myself I realized that these problems will always come up when trying to make ourselves better because no person in this world will just automatically become better without any sort of sacrifice or chain holding down on them.
I was able to show good before and after pictures in the video to show the huge difference that I made. Not only that I was able to show a reflection of each month of when I practiced in the video. Could definitely work on the editing and could have had better videos if I didn't switch recording devices in the middle of the recording months.
